Satchel Makahiya in Dark Wood

Its lightweight and spacious structure, combined with a nostalgic design, makes the Makahiya a great way to dress up your look for work or adventure.

The Makahiya flourishes in the most unexpected and hidden places. Its uniqueness is attributed to its delicate leaves that contract with the slightest of touch, only to bloom again after a few minutes of alone time—making the makahiya true to its Filipino meaning.
This piece features gold, handwoven silk from Ambension Silk, a social enterprise in the Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm that is dedicated to revitalizing the silk textile industry in the Philippines through the use of organic Eri silk. The silk was woven by women from the farm’s community in Bulacan. This is our first collaborative work with Ambension Silk.
The Makahiya satchel was embroidered by the mother artisans from Minglanilla, a town located south of Cebu, and is our first collaborative work with ANTHILL Fabric Gallery.
The artisans who worked on this piece were gathered and led by Lorna, a mother artisan who is passionate about creating hand embroidered designs and patterns.
From one hand and one place to another, this piece has a beautiful story of ingenuity. From the weaving mothers of Ambension Silk in Bulacan to the embroiderers in Cebu, and then to our crafter in Marikina and finally, to you.
